I think it sucks big time that "Captain Marvel" is actually a skrull.

I think it sucks that all stories are now written so that they will be able to package them into a TPB, or even worse, hardcover like this. Forcing creative work into a formula rarely breeds artistic success.

If you think about it, it makes no sense that the Secret (skrull) Invasion has years in the making. Aside from the fact that through the years there have been many other unsuccessful attempts at infiltration/invasion on their part, there were many, many instances in the past where the success of their objectives would have been achieved (instead of the ensuing defeat) had they employed the "nobody can detect them under any means" capabilities they now exhibit. Not that I think this would stop for a minute Marvel or Bendis from telling us so. So, if the Secret Invasion began after the Annihilation Wave I would see no reason to question this event's plot; however, if they tell us that this Masterplan began years and years ago I, for one, would reply: "Poppycock!"

Actually, it's all traced in New Avengers #40. They didn't discover how to walk totally undetected until a *very* short time before the Annihilation Wave- a precise date isn't given, but it looks like around the time of Wolverine: Enemy of the State which would be a year or two ago Marvel-time, max. Of course, in theory it COULD be long before that, but that's what it's looking like at the moment. NA #40 pretty clearly establishes that at the earliest, it was *years* after the Skrull homeworld was destroyed, meaning we're looking at the 90s at absolute earliest. So it does make a degree of sense.

So it does make a degree of sense. Maybe not "Enemy of the State," Doom. Bare in mind that Annihilation took place over the course of a year and Nova returned to Earth right around the time Civil War ended, so they probably kicked off their plans pre-"Disassembled" (judging by the Skrull there). So, we're looking at at time frame that's probably post-Johns run, pre-Disassembled. And also, some seeds planted in the past here and there.
