Here's a review of Ms.Marvel #23 from ign.com
The best thing Brian Reed ever did for Ms. Marvel was throw Machine Man into the mix. This Nextwave reject adds some much-needed flavor to what had formerly been a slightly bland series. In this issue, Aaron Stack becomes the second Marvel robot in the past few months to grow a set of boobs, and the results are classic. Oh, and Ms. Marvel gets in a good moment or two. If that matters to you.
Reed is seemingly trying to wrap up various loose ends before Secret Invasion starts to dominate the book. As the Brood opened the series, so too do they close off this chapter of Ms. Marvel's life. These Alien rejects aren't necessarily the most intriguing of villains, but they do have a significant connection with Ms. Marvel worth exploiting now and then. Carol's predicament becomes a little more interesting this issue as she appears to have lost her powers. The woman is exceedingly good at losing powers, gaining others, and then losing the new ones and getting the old ones back. Something smells Skrully to me...
Amusing, well-plotted, and good-looking to boot, the only thing really wrong with this series at the moment is that Ms. Marvel is less interesting than many of her new co-stars. Between Machine Man, Sleepwalker, and Wonder Man, this book hardly qualifies as a solo comic anymore. The series might actually improve if Marvel changed the name to The Marvelous Machine Man and His Fleshy Cohorts or something. Just a thought. At least that way I wouldn't feel compelled to still look to the comparatively lackluster Carol Danvers for excitement.
Review Score:8.0 Impressive
