I was at the shop yesterday, to pick up a couple of TPB's and to get Ms. Marvel #13, as planned.
I have never read her solo title before, and was encouraged to see her counterpoints to IM in other books of late. I will admit that I was hesitant after hearing that she was complicit in the recent ploy of tricking the New Avengers that Cap was still alive, but I thought... "what the heck, lets give it a shot."
I am glad I did.
The art was very good, though nothing to really rave about. Just good and solid.
What I like most is the character development. The book links up recent events in Carol's world to help her figure out what she wants to make of herself now, and how she plans on doing that going forward.
Knowing Carol's history with the military, and then seeing her comments to Tony about the SHRA and the hunting down of good people rather than criminals is something that I will admit I find the most likeable about her character. She's following orders, but she is letting it be known that she may not agree with those orders and is actively questioning them. I hope that is something she develops more of, as she gains confidence in her abilities as more of a leader and the responsibility that entails, rather than a glorified grunt. If she aspires to be someone looked up to, she is going to have to question her ideals and how they affect others and not just herself.
Overall I will give this book a 3.5 out of 5. Most importantly, they get me intrigued enough and liking Carol enough to check out the book again next month.

Good review Tone. I also picked up this book, after dropping it around issue 6. I had flipped through it in the comic shop, and when I saw Carol punch Tony, I knew I needed to get it! I do like how she is questioning Tony and what they (as Avengers and pro-reg heroes) are doing. She's in a sticky situation; not only is Tony her boss now, but as mentioned here, he's also her AA sponsor. I hadn't considered that before, but he was the person who reached out to her when her drinking problem became apparent. So she has a lot of ties to him, and the writer here (Reed) seems to understand that and is using it. I have to admit I'm interested now to see where this will go.

I haven't been to the shop this week to get that, but I'm looking forward to it now. I've felt something was brewing between Tony and Carol the whole time-- as in, Peter rebelled more quickly against him, but Carol is slowly, slowly rethinking things..........
