I actually thought this was the latest issue of MS. MARVEL I was picking up, but of course it turned out to be a "one-shot" deal.
I'm not sure now why this was a one-shot. Opening to the first couple of pages, I thought, "Ah, it's going to be a flashback story deal, where we learn more about what Carol did during her mostly unchronicled latter-day Binary time. So it would make sense to do it out of the flow of the regular series."
But, no.
Instead, we get a story that fits entirely within the current run of MS. MARVEL. In fact, I'd argue this was the single best MS. MARVEL issue of the curent run-- except for the fact that it wasn't part of the current run. So I'm not sure I understand the rationale for making it a one-shot. Odd.
It read like one of the old fill-in, "inventory" issues that had been stashed away in case the book was late one month. So maybe that's what it was--and with the Civil War (series, anyway) coming to an end, they needed to go ahead and publish it before it became outdated. I dunno.
In any case, I liked it a great deal. Big, fun, semi-cosmic stories suit Carol just fine. And as long as it doesn't lead to her being Binary again, full-time, I'm all for the occasional Binary sighting.
(As a side issue, I'm getting annoyed at the way every new artist alters the look of the Ms. Marvel costume a little bit more, and a little bit more... I especially dislike Cho's take on it, with the gigantic, thick golden "S" in place of a nice, thin lightning bolt-ish detail. For all that I liked Camuncoli's art otherwise, this issue, her costume's become a real issue with me. Ah well.)
Other thoughts?
