Interesting. At first, Batman Begins had to be in continuity with the other Batman movies, like Superman Returns should be happening after Superman I and II. However, the success of the movie clearly prompted DC to forget this decision and continue the series (for which I'm happy, I liked Batman Begins. I only wish there was a villain other than the Joker).

Saw this on the Internet this morning. It is allegedly the first photo released of Heath Ledger as the Joker: NOT what I would have expected....

Jack is going to be a TOUGH act to follow. 'This town needs an enema'. I also was hoping to see a different villain, like BANE ;D Joker story is pretty much told to death.

Good and bad. It's a little scary, yes... but also NOT the Joker, and not grinning.
Better to go a totally different route than try the classic one and just be shown as nothing next to old Jack I guess...

This is scary in a very scary way... I guess I, too, had more of a Nicholson-look, or even the prototype "The Man Who Laughs" Conrad Veidt-look in my mind for this film. But, this could work.

I think it's a good direction in staying with the tone of the movie now.

I just don't want them to go too "Tim Burton weird" like Batman Returns was. The Penguin just creeped me out! It really wasn't an homage to the comics, and I think these films should satisfy both traditional comics readers as well as non-readers.

I guess I'm showing my lack of familiarty with DC to your level. I enjoed the penguin,.. except his eating habits were a bit over the top for me. I loved his take on cat-woman as well. That aside,... I think it's hard to not do Joker right. He is a character with a very,.. specific persona from what I do know about him (which isn't too much) I will be looking forward to seeing it. Ledger has the chops to do a good job.

The Joker may not be smiling, but it could be worse. He could have the face cut perma-smile.

With the green hair he's starting to look like a really good Joker.
I'm a little worried this movie is going to make me afraid of clowns.

Speaking of new pics, have you guys caught the updated batsuit?

Not only does it look cool, it looks to be very practically functional. (Both Cycle and new suit). Cycle could look a little more bat themed, but since Bats is gonna be riding it, I guess it isn't a big issue.

Well you could look at it, as it is "Batman Begins" themed, just by the tires on it along, it seems obviously inspired by the well-received "Tumbler" from the first movie.

The batpod looks a bit silly to me, at least with Batman on top, but I thought the same at the first pic of the batmobile and then changed my mind for the movie. If they explain it properly, it'll be fine. I never realized Batman's cowl could be so complicated to make

Yeah just looking at the Batmobile from Begins wouldn't really do it for me, you gotta hear the spiel about the military designs and see that it looks realistic in all its crazy stunts and abilities(In contrast, in the earlier films the car climbing a wall to escape an explosion didn't seem very realistic from a mechanical point of view)

In this morning's Chicago Tribune, there was a short article about WizardWorld Chicago, specifically the "top secret" Dark Knight panel (Saturday) that was attended by 1200 people! After confiscating all video devices at the door, a discussion took place between the fans and Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and Aaron Leckhart (Two-Face). Also there were Christopher Nolan, David Goyer, and Jonathan Nolan.
A "trailer" was shown for the film, hence the A/V secrecy. In it, to which the audience roared its approval, were shots of Batman perched high above the city like a gargoyle, Batman and the Joker battling in a bright, tiled room, the Joker sitting menacingly in a prison cell glaring like Hannibal, a shadowed figure taking an axe to the Bat Signal, a fire engine burning in the street, and a shot of the scarred back of Two-Face's neck.
Sounds very exciting, and I'll admit that I didn't know that Harvey Dent was to make his transformation in this film!

I guess I've always wanted Mark Hamil to play the Joker since I love his take on the animated series...
And yeah, the stiffness of the cowl always bugged me in the other Batman films.
Joker is a natural villian, since he is so well-known -thanks to things like the animated series, the Filmation cartoons and the Adam West Batman of the 1960s.

I don't know if anyone's heard the news, but Heath Ledger is dead. www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=12790My prayers go out to his family during this time. --- Doom, would you happen to know if the filming was complete? Only because if it wasn't and there were still scenes for him to play in, there could be huge problems. With the strike happening, there can be no re-writes and, thus no writing him out.

God, that's shocking. I literally had to triple check to see if I'd read it right- he was only 28. A loss to the acting world indeed. I join woodside in offering prayers... it's all I can do, I guess.... ------------------------- W, filming was finished. The movie will go ahead, doubtless with a full dedication to Ledger. And on the cynic's side of things... it will probably make more money now than it would have. Personally though... it won't feel right watching it. A real tragedy.
