"I've spent a lifetime in combat against those who want to impose their views on free men. And I'll battle them to my dying day."
--Captain America, epilogue to the Korvac Saga TPB (circa 1978)
Not only is that eerily prescient with regard to the Civil War, but it also says a lot about the country today, I'd say...

Though it's unrelated, I was reading the X-Men/Decimation story "Blood of Apocalypse" last night. There's a scene where the New Avengers show up to help the X-Men break into Apocalypse's ship (it was hovering over the UN) and Havok is leading the team. He and Captain America work out a quick plan, in which Havok then says "It's an honor to work with you!" It certainly doesn't tie into the quote you picked out, but it certainly shows just how much Cap can inspire and can be praised even among the other super-heroes and super-hero leaders.
