Once again ign.com rates the future of the Captain America book.
Captain America #30
Current Creative Team:
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Steve Epting & Mike Perkins
Start With: Issue #25 (February 2007)
Title Analysis: What can we say about Ed Brubaker's Captain America that hasn't been said a thousand times already? It was apparent from the first issue of the relaunch that Brubaker had something very special in store for the good Captain. Over the course of the book's first year Brubaker reestablished Captain America as one of the best action/espionage titles on the market, culminating in the return of a long-thought-dead Bucky Barnes. The second year saw Cap fighting to bring Bucky back from the dark side just as Civil War began to heat up. Then, shots were fired that were heard around the world. Captain America was assassinated.
Surprisingly, Brubaker is still chugging along on the series, not letting the Cap's death affect the quality one iota. The focus has shifted to Cap's allies, including Bucky, Sharon Carter, and The Falcon, as they struggle to cope with their loss and put a stop to Red Skull's latest dark plan. Every bit as amazing as Brubaker's contribution is the tag-team art combo of Steve Epting and Mike Perkins. The two have very similar noir-influenced styles, and it's often difficult to tell which of the two is penciling a given page. Thanks to them, Captain America maintains a consistent look and a steady shipping schedule (now that the Civil War delays are through) every month. We see no reason to believe that Brubaker, Epting, and Perkins won't continue their hot streak for the forseeable future.
Currently: Excellent
Future Prognosis: Excellent
